Image Galleries

Whenever a single featured image isn't enough — a set of product photos, an event recap, a portfolio piece with multiple shots — you can add a full image gallery directly inside the content editor, without any separate plugin or upload tool.

Note that galleries are not site-wide, they are article-bound. If you want to have the same gallery on 2 different articles, you will have to recreate it.

At the bottom of the editor's window, in the Galleries section, click "New Gallery". Click "Add Images" to import them in your gallery, then insert the gallery shortcode wherever you want the gallery to appear in your content.

Give the gallery a label if you like — useful mainly for keeping track of which is which if an item has more than one. Giving you gallery a name is also useful when using the Alt Text Assistant, which shows where each image is found in your content (it includes the gallery name).

Organizing your galleries

You can simply drag and drop images to reorder them. If you accidentally added an image that you don't want in your gallery, simply click the red button under the image to remove it. Note that the image will only be removed from your gallery, not from your server.

Choosing a layout

Each gallery picks from four layouts, so you can match the feel to the content. Select which layout you want from the dropdown:

  • Grid — a clean, even set of columns. The safe, general-purpose choice.
  • Masonry — a Pinterest-style layout that lets taller and shorter images sit naturally next to each other, good for photos of mixed orientations and sizes.
  • Justified — rows of images sized to fill the available width evenly, a look often used by photography sites.
  • Carousel — one image at a time, with previous/next controls, when you want visitors to move through photos one by one rather than scanning a full set at once.

To delete gallery, simply click the red button at the top left corner of the gallery. A window will appear asking you to confirm if you want to remove it, so you don't ever delete a gallery accidentally.

Viewing images full-screen

Whichever layout you pick, clicking any image opens it in a full-screen viewer (a "lightbox") that visitors can click or swipe through — no extra setup needed, it comes with every gallery automatically.

Alt text and captions

Each image in a gallery can have its own alt text (a short description for accessibility and search engines) and an optional caption shown underneath it. If you're adding photos in bulk and don't want to fill these in one at a time while writing, the Alt Text Assistant tool lets you review and fill in every image across your whole site from one screen.
